Captain's Corner

First: a big thank you to everyone who came out to Mariposa.  We engaged in two hand-to-hand scenarios with the CS Marines, drank a ton of water, had a phenomenal twilight battle, and generally had a great time.  Several people had to sit out because of the heat, but generally everyone held up well.  I have a little leftover water which I'll bring to Roaring Camp.  Also, thanks to Billy for sending in this fantastic photo of the cavalry rescuing our national colors:

Mariposa: Final Words

Two last-minute announcements.  Also, I will be there around 6 pm tonight, with all the gear.

Garryowen!

Mariposa: Last Call

I've had a great response for Mariposa.  We're going to have a great turnout for the 69th and this is already shaping up to be one of the best events ever.  Enclosed find a camp map, event details, and schedule.

Mariposa: Third Call

I'm getting repeated requests for a head count from the Colonel's staff and to date I've only heard from three people re. Mariposa.  We're less than two weeks away.  Are you going?  Please let me know.

  • Mariposa & school days: second call
  • "Ring of Fire" presentation 4/18
  • Gibson Ranch in May

Alcatraz Spring Garrison

Friends of Civil War Alcatraz and the National Park Service will be holding the Spring Living History Day on Saturday, April 14, 2012.

It's On

Just to be clear: Knight's Ferry is happening.  We will all be there.  We will burn obscene amounts of powder.

I apologize for the confusion before; it was a moment of weakness and won't happen again.  Here's some of the feedback I received:

"The more the conditions suck the better the experience in my opinion. I havent known the 69th to be fair weather people. The 69th has been in sucky weather for as long as I can remember." - Billy Coye

Time To Panic

A word about Knight's Ferry and the weather.

Short version: The event is still on, but there's a chance it will get canceled.  Check your email and voicemail before you leave the house.  Please email me your cell phone number right now just in case I have to call at the last minute.  (If you don't have a cell phone, tell me it's your home line and let me know when you'll be leaving tomorrow.)

Long version:

You are invited to join the Nelson family in saying goodbye to Gary.

Place: St. Leander's Church (map)

Time: Thursday 3/8, 7:00 pm

Mr. Nelson will be on display from 5pm.  The Knights of Columbus will be standing guard.

Active/retired US service personnel may wear their uniform.  Civil War attire is also welcome.

I will be wearing my 69th uniform; please join me.
